Here’s a fun and educational app for your ipad.  KidsDental teaches your child good brushing and eating habits.  It also allows your child to chart which teeth they have lost.  You can download it for free on iTunes.

As an ocean lover and surfer, I hope to keep the oceans clean for many more generations.  Here’s a great organization called Rise Above Plastics that hopes to protect our oceans.  Check out their website at http://riseaboveplastics.org/.  Recycle your plastic so it doesn’t end up in our oceans!

Today is the Great American Smokeout. The American Cancer Society wants smokers to use this date to make a plan to quit smoking. Tobacco use is a major factor in the cause of oral cancers. Let’s kindly remind our smoker friends about the Great American Smokeout.

It was a great day for a ride! Thanks to all the event staff for putting together a fun course complete with rest stops to help re-energize us.  It was also nice to hear people cheering us on!  Our logo made the back of the bike jersey and got a little chopped off.  Still it was a great event for an important cause.  Thanks to our patients for riding with us or cheering us on!

Harmony Dental Center will be taking its summer vacation.  We will be closed July 25th to August 7th.  We are back in the office on August 8th.  Staff will be available during this time to answer the phone and return any messages.  Hope you all get out and enjoy the summer!

Chewing tobacco has been a major cause of oral cancers.  I came across this product as an alternative to chewing tobacco.  Professional baseball players have started using these pouches instead of tobacco.  The pouches contain flavored coffee as well as some B-vitamins.  You place the pouches in between your teeth and gums and you can swallow your saliva instead of spitting all the time as with tobacco.  The company claims that each pouch contains the same amount of caffeine as 1/4 cup of coffee.  Instead of the energy boost coming from nicotine, you get the enery boost from the caffeine.   You can get more information at the company’s website www.getgrinds.com
